Artist Of The Month

Terri Snider with Ed - 2014 Year of the Horse Asian Zodiac entry.

Parma is home to a great many talented individuals, artists and craftsmen, both professional and amateur, who specialize in a variety of mediums. This article is the first in a series which will showcase a Parma area artist and introduce you to many of your talented neighbors.

Terri Snider

Terri Snider and her husband relocated from Pennsylvania in the 1990s. Her husband works for an IT firm in downtown Cleveland. They immediately fell in love with the Parma area. They enjoyed the small home town feel of the city and the sense of community. They felt it was a great place to live and raise a family. Their daughter attends school in the Parma City School District.

Oil painting was her first love, but while pregnant with her daughter she migrated to acrylics. Terri strives to invoke an emotional response to the viewer through her use of bold saturated color and contrast. Much like Terri herself, her pieces are upbeat and humorous.

Her work has been displayed in numerous galleries and competitions throughout the Eastern and Midwestern states, including the cities of Denver, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and New York. She was included in a group show at the Agora gallery in Soho, New York. Photos of her work were also in the Artists Spectrum Magazine. She has shown in the Womanmade Art Gallery in Chicago. Her oil on canvas titled “A Dish Served Cold” can be seen on the digital MOMA gallery on-line. For a time she was part owner of Vivid Gallery in the Arcade in Downtown Cleveland. She has also completed numerous commissioned works, and continues to do commissions today.

Terri states, “I like surrealism and my favorite artist is Salvador Dali. I think his compositions are both brave and bizarre, and he wasn't concerned if the public would like them or not.”

In 2004 her focus began to shift to public art, beginning with the “Art Fur Animals”, an annual event which benefits the Cleveland Kennel Club. Also in 2004, House of Blues sponsored her guitar “Homemade” for Guitar Mania. In 2006, she participated in the St Clair/Superior's Asian Zodiac Sculpture event, with her entry for the Year of the Dog. She continues to participate annually in both the Cleveland Kennel Club and the Asian Zodiac event. She also donates her time to numerous causes that promote arts and culture in the area. “I think that modern society is changing and artists have more of a role to play in that change than ever before. Everyone needs to get involved with their community, no matter what their talents; we can all improve where we live, each in our own way. There is an artist in all of us; you just have to find your medium.”

In the spring of 2013, while brainstorming fund raising ideas for Parma's Polish Village Community Development Corporation, Flamingo Fever was born. With Terri's love of the Parma community and her love of public art, she was a natural to co-chair the first ever public art exhibition in Parma. Flamingo Fever was so well received by the Parma community that it took on a life of its own last year. In addition to the articles printed in the local press, Cleveland Magazine did a feature story on Flamingo Fever in May of 2013. Look for more information on Flamingo Fever in the coming months.
