A Morning Of Inspiration With Nationally Renowned Music Therapist

Nationally acclaimed music therapist Deforia Lane, who leads University Hospitals' Music Therapy Program, will speak at UH Parma Medical Center's 25th annual Community Prayer Breakfast.

, at University Hospitals Parma Medical Center’s 25th Annual Community Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, October 16.

The Community Prayer Breakfast, sponsored by UH Parma Medical Center, is an opportunity to unite area citizens for an inspiring morning of reflection and fellowship. The event at St. Michael’s Woodside, 5025 Mill Road, Broadview Hts., begins at 7 a.m. with a buffet breakfast, followed by Dr. Lane’s program, punctuated with amusing and poignant anecdotes from her experience in promoting healing and hope through music.

Dr. Lane has designed and implemented music therapy programs for such diverse populations as adult and pediatric cancer patients, abused children, geriatric clients, individuals with mental illness, stroke survivors, and the terminally ill. Music therapy teams at University Hospitals have witnessed extraordinary results, including individuals waking from a coma during music therapy. She has appeared on NBC Nightly News and has served as consultant to many organizations, including the Ohio Department of Mental Health, Mayo Clinic, the National Department on Aging, and Sesame Street.

The board-certified music therapist holds a master’s degree from Cleveland State University and earned her PhD in Music Education from Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Lane is distinguished by her ability to empathize with her clients because of her personal struggle with cancer. She regularly gives workshops on the use of music in teaching Christian concepts to children ages 2-10. She is a member of the Board of Trustees at Cleveland’s City Mission and at the Board of Directors of International AID, a Christian relief organization that supports hospitals, churches, and missionaries around the world.
