The Froelich House

Froelich family marker in Town Line Cemetary.

One mile south of the Henninger Homestead and quarry is another house made of sandstone from the Henninger quarry. It sits on the east side of Broadview Road in Seven Hills. It was built by John Froelich in 1843.

John Froelich and his family came to the United States in the early 1800's. The family worked on the construction of the Ohio and Erie Canal. The money they earned working on the canal made it possible for them to purchase 50 acres from the Connecticut Land Company. Their property extended on both sides of Broadview Road, which was called Town Line Road at that time, in Independence and Parma Townships. The stone house was built on this land at 7095 Broadview Road.  In 1974, the home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The two-story former farmhouse has a large frame wing and one unusual feature, the pair of semicircular fanlights above the second floor, instead of the usual one.

The Froelich family lived in the house until 1890. When the last surviving Froelich family member died, the home was sold to Conrad and Emma Apel. The resting place of the Apel family members can be found with those of the Henningers in Saint Peters Cemetery, established in 1858, located at E. Ridgewood Drive and Broadview Road.  Members of the Froelich family are buried in the Town Line Cemetery, located on Broadview Road north of the Froelich house.
