Parma Citizens Police Academy Begins On September 15
PARMA, OHIO – The Parma Police Department is still accepting applications for this fall’s Citizen Police Academy. The academy will start on September 15, 2015. The academy is 10 weeks long and will run weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The cost is free for those individuals who are selected.
Individuals must be at least 18 years of age, have no criminal history other than minor traffic violations (background checks will be performed), be physically able to participate in active class training, commit to attend 10 weekly three-hour sessions, and sign required waivers and agreements.
The Citizen Police Academy program is intended to open the lines of communication between the community and the Parma Police Department. The objective of the program is not to train and certify individuals to become police officers, but rather to produce better informed citizens. Citizens who participate in the academy program, along with the police officers who will teach various classes, will work together in a friendly environment designed to build trust and provide the citizen with an understanding of the many challenges faced in today’s law enforcement profession.
