UH Parma Medical Center, North Royalton YMCA Collaborating On Walking Program In September-October

UH Parma Medical Center is collaborating with the North Royalton Family YMCA to present a six-week adult wellness challenge. Structured as a walking program preceded by a brief informative talk by a hospital or community health expert, “Mindful in Motion” is kicked off by a comprehensive initial health assessment to give each participant a baseline of their health status.

The program will take place at the North Royalton Family YMCA, 14409 State Road, which is the home of one of UH Parma Medical Center’s therapy satellite locations since its opening in 2012. Group walks around the adjacent neighborhood will be held on Thursdays from 6 – 7 p.m., following a discussion with a health and wellness expert. Topics for talks will include stroke prevention, heart disease, stress management, bone and joint care, proper stretching, and community safety. Weekly programming also will include healthy recipes, giveaways, and tips on nutrition, exercise, and disease prevention.

All participants will receive an initial health assessment conducted by UH Parma Medical Center professionals on Monday, Sept. 21 from 5 – 8 p.m. The assessment will include: total cholesterol, glucose, body mass index, weight, blood pressure, posture, strength, and flexibility. Flu shots also will be available. The cost is just $10 per person.
