Cleveland, OH – November 10, 2015 – Maggie’s Place is celebrating six years of service to expectant mothers here in Cleveland with a special “Gratitude” themed open house event on Saturday, November 14 from 10 AM to 1 PM. Guests will take part in a special prayer service followed by tours and a unique program centered on the theme of gratitude. A light lunch will conclude the activities.

The mission of Maggie’s Place is to provide houses of hospitality and ongoing support to help pregnant and parenting women in need reach their goals, and welcome them into a community filled with love and dignity. According to Ohio Board President Rick Costello, the goal of The Zechariah House is to “provide a safe, welcoming home and supportive family atmosphere for Northeast Ohio’s most vulnerable expectant women and at-risk infants, helping them to avoid sleeping on the streets, staying in shelters or remaining in unhealthy relationships while also expecting a baby. We do what we can to welcome them, connect them with needed resources, and model love and stability so they can re-focus on having healthy, full-term pregnancies and building up the skills and support systems they will need to parent and live independently.”

Maggie’s Place is a community of homes in two states (OH & AZ) for expectant women who may have no support or a place to live during their pregnancy. Maggie’s Place provides safe housing, nourishing food, clothing, counseling, parenting preparation, employment readiness, educational opportunities and college scholarships for pregnant women who may be alone, on the streets or facing other difficult life circumstances. Women must be at least 18 years of age, non-drug using and pregnant to be admitted, and may stay up to six months after giving birth.

The Zechariah House was dedicated by Cleveland Bishop Richard Lennon with an inaugural Mass on the grounds of the home in August of 2009. Since that time, the home has provided refuge to 111 pregnant women and their infants. The home is staffed by live-in MissionCorps members, or female employees who serve as mentors and non-professional case managers to the mothers. The home also relies heavily on regular volunteers to conduct daily operations and programming.
