MyCom Youth Corner

The Tri-City MyCom Youth Council attended Advocacy Day on March 30, 2017 at the Statehouse in Columbus. The youth had previously attended Advocacy Training provided by Voices for Ohio’s Children at the Neighborhood Leadership Institute.

Our group joined nine other Cuyahoga County Neighborhoods for the bus ride down to Columbus.

Six youth from Parma Senior High: Zahraa Alribeawi, Ebony Cianciola, Christine Huffman, Ilene Jones, Alexis Puleo and Noah Utterback met with State Representative John E. Barnes and the legislative aide for Senator Michael Skindell to advocate for continued and increased funding for out of school time programming. We were then treated to an interesting and informative tour of the statehouse.

The goal of this event was to allow our youth to use their “voice” to advocate for themselves and others.

Seven Hills Councilman Tony Biasiotta, Community Activist Gene Lovasy, MyCom Project Coordinator Jean Micklewright and MyCom Project Assistant, Kathy Hall accompanied our youth on this educational journey.
