Volunteers Give More Than 47,000 Hours To UH Parma Medical Center
The Parma Hospital Auxiliary celebrated its 332 volunteers during National Volunteer Week in April. This mighty force - who donate their time directing visitors at the Information Desk, transporting patients, delivering newspapers and comfort care items to inpatients, and providing a welcoming presence – gave 47,391 hours of service to the hospital in 2016.
The Auxiliary, which runs the Gift Shop and Healing Grounds coffee shop at UH Parma Medical Center and holds numerous fundraisers throughout the year, donated $68,000 toward the purchase of many items, including walker bags, recliners for the Emergency Department, blanket warming cabinets for PACU and 9 CCU Stepdown, and Plain Dealer newspapers delivered daily to patients.
At a Volunteer Recognition Luncheon last month, they recognized one individual for donating more than 4,000 hours of service throughout their lifetime, and five students with scholarships named after Andrea Sack, the Auxiliary’s longtime director. Awards for one year of service to 40 years of service were given, along with two Volunteer of the Year awards.
“You are all a very special part of our hospital family,” said UH Parma President Peter Bergmann. “I thank each and every one of you for unselfishly giving of your time and talents to your community hospital. We are the better for your dedication.”
