Picnic In The Park A Huge Success

On Saturday, August 3, 2019, a beautiful summer day with blue skies, no rain in sight and temps in the 70’s, We Are Parma Proud, Parma’s newest nonprofit, hosted their inaugural event, a Picnic in the Park. It was held at Anthony Zielinksi Park nestled by the Splash Pad, Parma Script Sign and Ridgewood Lake. As an inaugural event it was a huge success. They expected about 200 to attend and realized over 500.

The event kicked off at 1 PM with the Joseph J. Jacabuic Post #572, American Legion’s Honor Guard, presentation of colors, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The event was reminiscent of a family oriented, small town picnic. Children laughed and played. Adults strolled the grounds and listened to the live music provided by Tequila Wagon, stopping to lunch at the various food trucks parked along the way. There were organized games for adults and children, plus a magician strolling around performing magic tricks. Face-painting too. We Are Parma Proud had their official logo shirts and peanuts for sale. They raffled off a rolling flamingo themed cooler filled with goodies.

Parma nonprofit organizations were invited to join the event. Many participated, such as Rise In Love/Pantry at All Saints, Ridgewood Garden Club, Parma Area Family Collaborative, Parma Animal Shelter, Parma Alumni Association, Partners In Education, Parma City School Foundation, PSE Credit Union, PECPTA, Parma Fine Arts Council, and Parma Constellation Schools. Many children received backpacks filled with school supplies. Sidewalk chalk, and string bags were also given away.  Many tables also had raffles.

Thank you to all who came and all of the organizations that participated.

We Are Parma Proud is currently in the planning stages for a Christmas holiday event, and are working on creating a Welcome To Parma booklet, which would list entertainment and shopping options in our city.
