Disappearance Of Beverly Potts

The 70th anniversary of the mysterious disappearance of 10 year old native Clevelander Beverly Potts’ is coming up in August.. On August 24, 195I, Beverly went missing from Halloran Park which is on the west side of Cleveland. The park is located on West 117 Street north of Lorain Road. She was last seen attending the annual talent show event called the Show Wagon. The case stands alone because despite being one of the largest police investigations in Cleveland history, nothing has ever been discovered as far as the little girl’s fate is concerned.

What many people are unaware of is that some of the investigation leads caused authorities to search surrounding metropolitan areas. These areas included the city of Parma and Brookpark and the Big Creek Metro Parks near Brookpark and Teideman Road. At one time during the investigation, it was reported that a little girl was struck by an automobile at Halloran Park the day of the Show Wagon. Additionally, it was reported that her body was disposed of somewhere in a wooded area in Parma between Snow Road, West 130, Stumph Road and Huffman Road. This 3 quarter of a square mile area was still underdeveloped back in 1951 and was considered lovers lane for teenagers and a place for gangs to race their jalopies. Back in 1951, due to a lack of manpower, the Cleveland Police Department not only recruited Parma Police Officers, but also boy scouts from Cleveland and Fairview Park to conduct the searches in that area. Other major searches were conducted in Big Creek Parkway near Brookpark and Hauserman Road.

Up until that time, parents were very cordial about their children's whereabouts, but afterwards, they would regularly warn their kids about talking to strangers or they too would end up like Beverly Potts. To this day, the disappearance remains a cold case. Even now, every now and then, an upwardly mobile promising new detective will attempt to solve the mystery of what happened to the missing child.

A 2021 documentary about the disappearance of Beverly Potts titled “Vanishing of Beverly Pottsis coming out in August.
