Parma Heights Memorial Day Commemoration

On Monday, May 29th, the Parma Heights Memorial Day service will take place on the front lawn of the Parma-South Presbyterian Church at 6155 Pearl Road. 2023 marks the 156th consecutive year of the Parma Heights Memorial Day commemoration. The Parma Heights service is the oldest continuous observance in the state of Ohio.

The service at the church will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the ceremony at the cemetery, also on Pearl Road, scheduled to begin at about 10:45 a.m.

The Memorial Day ceremonies will include speeches at the Parma-South Presbyterian Church by: Mayor Marie Gallo, Rev. Blake Severson from Parma-South Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post #703 representative, along with the Valley Forge Marching Band and Boy Scout Troop #263. For those planning to attend the service at Parma-South Presbyterian church, please bring chairs to sit on.

The Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery service will include the wreath laying ceremony. Over 50 veterans are buried in the Parma Heights cemetery ranging from The Revolutionary War to the Vietnam War.

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. The continuation of the Memorial Day ceremonies is a staple for the City of Parma Heights and its residents.
