Something Different To Do On May 18th & 19th

Looking for something different to do on the weekend of May 18th & 19th ? Stop in at the Medley of Arts Annual Show & Sale. There’s something for everyone, besides the various paint and pencil visual arts, you’ll see fiber art, three-dimensional pieces, photography, wood carving and wood burning from local talented individuals. Admission is FREE. Attendees to this event will have the opportunity to meet and talk with local artists. Entertainment is provided as well as refreshments, and chances to win some nice raffle prizes. It’s a great way to view the artistic creations of your friends and neighbors, a break from the daily grind. Lots of talented artists and craftsmen in our area.

It’s brought to you by the Parma Area Fine Arts Council, Inc. every May. They are a non-profit organization that was created in 1962 and has served this area for over 60 years. They are dedicated to creating, producing, and enjoying art, and bringing the art to the community for the enrichment and pleasure of it's people. The event will be held at the Parks & Recreation Building, 7335 Ridge Rd, in the recessed area off the main lobby called Parma Art Center, Saturday and Sunday, May 18th, & 19th, from 11 to 3 pm.

The show is divided into eight categories. 1) Watercolor Painting 2) Acrylic & Oil Painting 3) Graphics (Pencil, Charcoal, Pen & Ink, Marker, Computer Generated Art, Pyrography) 4) Photography 5) Three-Dimensional Art (Sculpture, Pottery, Glass, Enamel, Jewelry) 6) Mixed Media/Collage 7) Fiber Art 8) Wood Carving. Some of the work will be for sale. The pieces range from low to mid-priced.

Artists who place First in each of the eight categories will be awarded $50. Second & Third receive ribbons. A $150 prize is awarded for Best In Show. Attendees can participate by voting for the People’s Choice award of $75, which goes to the favorite artist.

This year Parma Arts is partnering with The Flamingo Writers Guild, a literary arts guild, to offer an Ekphrasis Event. What’s that’s you say? The ekphrastic approach is when one art medium relates to another, in this case written word expression is matched with a piece from this visual art exhibit. The Flamingo Writers Guild connects and promotes with local writers in Parma and the surrounding communities. Monthly reading series called “Mingle with the Flamingos”, “Pens and Pints”, poetry workshops, meetings, fun events and more. Follow Flamingo Writers Guild on Facebook.
