Joanna Ellis - Art Quilts

First Bite by Joanna Ellis

It never ceases to amaze me how talented our friends and neighbors are. Take for instance, Joanna Ellis, a fiber artist, living in Parma, and a member of Parma Arts who is one very talented lady. She tells me her journey began with a needle and bobbin lace, weaving and spinning. She created her first quilt, a tumbling block baby quilt, ten years ago. Soon after that she discovered art quilts. She generally creates portraits of people and animals. They are incredibly detailed. True works of art.

Photos of her art quilts have appeared in numerous publications, such as Quilting Arts Magazine, Studio Art Quilters Associates Journal, Quilt Maker, and Love of Quilting. She’s shown both in person and virtually throughout the USA in national and international events in Kentucky, South Carolina, Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, California, New Jersey, Maine and more. She’s won numerous awards.

You have an opportunity to view a few of these incredible art quilts, as Joanna is currently one of three artists on display at the Powers Blvd Library in the spring show, titled The Beauty and Humor of Everyday Life. Reception for the three artists is on Monday, April 21 from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. She’s also doing a presentation titled Art Quilting: My Journey on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 7 to 8 pm, in meeting room A/B. Registration opened March 14, 2025 for this presentation at Powers Blvd Library. She’s also teaching a class at Pins and Needles Tuesdays 5/27 to 6/17 10:30 to 2:30, titled Ten Terrific Techniques to Give Dimension to Art Quilts.
